Memorandum to the Home Affairs committee post-legislative assessment of the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005

The government has introduced a new form of post-legislative scrutiny of all Acts, starting with those that received Royal Assent in 2005. Departments are to producing a memorandum on each Act for the appropriate Departmental Select Committee, to allow it to consider whether to undertake full post-legislative scrutiny of the Act.

The memorandum reiterates the government’s long-standing position on a range of control order-related issues such as the necessity and effectiveness of the regime, and its compliance with human rights.
