New PPS commutation factors backdated to 1 December 2006 (27/04/09)
Following a decision by the High Court, new factors for commutation of annual pension into a lump sum in the Police Pension Scheme 1987 have been backdated to 1 December 2006. The new factors were originally announced in May 2008. Guidance for police pensions administrators on making backdated payments has been issued today. The guidance will be issued as numbered Home Office Circular shortly. In the meantime, it has the status of a Home Office Circular.
New guidance on transfer calculations into PPS (16/04/09)
Government Actuary's Department (GAD) have issued new guidance and factors for non-Club transfers into PPS. GAD have also issued a revised version of Table N in the previously issued guidance on transfer values and pension sharing for PPS. The revised table extends to higher ages the factors for adjusting pension debits. These two documents complete the guidance on transfer values and pension sharing in PPS and NPPS and will be consolidated in due course.
New NPPS Members' Guide (16/03/09)
A new version of the Members' Guide for the New Police Pension Scheme 2006 (NPPS) has been published today, to replace the original version published in 2006. There are no drastic changes (the scheme itself has not changed), but the new version clarifies a number of points and makes a few minor corrections.
New guidance on transfer values and pension sharing for PPS and NPPS (12/01/09, updated 11/02/09 and 24/02/09)
Government Actuary's Department have issued new guidance on transfer values and pension sharing for the Police Pension Scheme 1987 (originally issued on 12 January 2009, re-issued in a slightly revised version on 11 February 2009) and similar guidance on transfer values and pension sharing for the New Police Pension Scheme 2006 (originally issued on 12 January 2009, re-issued in a slightly revised version on 24 February 2009). The guidance covers transfer values for the Public Sector Transfer Club, statutory cash equivalent transfer values (for non-Club transfers), cash equivalents on divorce and pension debits and pension credits on divorce for the two schemes. The guidance consolidates interim transfer guidance issued on 28 November 2008. Note that for the PPS guidance a corrected version of pages 26 and 27 should replace these pages in the version of 11 February.
