Food: the local vision
Tuesday 22 October 2002
The objective of this joint statement by the Food Standards Agency, the Local Government Agency and LACORS, is to confirm the commitment to working together and to highlight some of the many initiatives that are already underway in local authorities.
It is intended to promote good practice and provide inspiration about the many ways in which local authorities can act to help promote access to safe and nutritious food and improve community health and well-being.
It is clear that this shared vision is only the first step in improving partnership working between the different organisations.
A Framework Agreement on local authority food law enforcement, separately describes those aspects of the interaction between our organisations.
This vision document concentrates on activities directed towards helping people achieve healthy balanced diets.
Case studies on developing food policies and community action on food supply and promoting healthy eating are summarised.
Having collated the case studies, there is a plan to develop a programme of best practice, bringing together the expertise of practitioners in the field, and relevant organisations, to help provide support to enable local authorities to develop a more strategic approach to addressing food issues locally.
In this way, it is hoped to help support local authorities to help us achieve this shared vision.
