Golden Sun Palm Oil
Friday 23 July 2004
The Agency has issued a Category C Food Hazard Warning (FHW) in England and a Category D FHW in Scotland relating to illegal dye Sudan IV in Golden Sun Palm Oil.
The affected batch was manufactured in Ghana and distributed in England by:
- Macphilips Foods Ltd, Unit 2, Golden House, Waterden Road, London E15 2EE
- Wanis Ltd, Golden House, 44 Waterden Road, London, E15 2EE
Most of the product has been sold directly to the public from Wanis Ltd through their retail outlet but they have also distributed it to cash and carry stores/retail outlets in London and Birmingham.
Food Hazard Warnings
FHWs are the Agency's way of letting local authorities and consumers know about problems associated with food and, in some cases, providing details of specific action to be taken.
They are also copied to consultants in communicable disease control, trading standards officers and food trade organisations, to alert them to current food issues.
They are currently issued under four categories:
A: For Immediate Action
B: For Action
C: For Action as Deemed Necessary
D: For Information
FHWs are often issued in conjunction with a product withdrawal or recall by a manufacturer, retailer or distributor.
