Loch Arthur Criffel and Crannog cheeses
Monday 22 November 2004
Dumfries-based Loch Arthur Creamery has recalled two different types of cheeses sold throughout the UK after they were found to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The Agency has issued a Food Alert 'For Information'.
Product details
Criffel (semi-soft, rind washed cheese):
Best Before: 13 December 2004
Crannog (full fat soft cheese):
Best Before: 11 January 2005
It is understood that these cheeses would have been on sale before 15 November 2004. If you bought the cheese before this date you should not eat it. You should either throw it away or take it back to the place where you bought it.
Loch Arthur Creamery has undertaken a full product recall, arranged for point of sale notices to be displayed and issued a press release.
Food Alerts
Food Alerts are the FSA's way of letting local authorities and consumers know about problems associated with food and, in some cases, providing details of specific action to be taken.
They were previously known as Food Hazard Warnings and were issued under four categories (A, B, C and D).
Under the new system, which took effect on 25 October 2004, they are issued under two categories:
- Food Alerts: For Action (replacing A, B and C)
- Food Alerts: For Information (replacing Category D)
