Chemical in jar lids not a threat to human health

The Food Standards Agency has welcomed a statement from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) that a chemical found in twist-on-twist-off jar lids is not of concern to human health at the levels found in food.
EFSA has concluded that the chemical, semicarbazide, is not a genotoxic carcinogen and is not a threat to public health.
Nick Tomlinson, Head of Chemical Safety at the Food Standards Agency, said: This means that parents can be reassured about the issue of semicarbazide in baby food jars.
