Agency salt campaign enters new phase
Monday 10 October 2005
Today the Agency has launched the next stage of its salt campaign, encouraging people to check salt levels on food labels and eat no more than 6g of salt a day.
The advertising campaign includes television, women's weekly press and poster advertising. Public relations and other supporting activity will be used to amplify the key campaign messages.
The campaign has been fully researched during development and will be tracked for its effectiveness.
Salt and your health
Eating too much salt can raise your blood pressure. In England, one in three adults has high blood pressure, also known as hypertension. Hypertension is a cause or contributory factor in 170,000 deaths in England alone each year.
Every day 26 million people in the UK eat more than 6g of salt, the recommended daily maximum for adults.
