14th Meeting of the Expert Group on Vitamins and Minerals, 19 December 2001

The Expert Group on Vitamins and Minerals held its 14th meeting on the 19 December 2001. The following items were discussed:

(1) Minutes of the previous meeting

The minutes of the previous meeting were agreed. Copies of these minutes are available from the Secretariat or on the Expert Group page of the Food Standards Agency website (www.food.gov.uk).

(2) Risk Assessments

The Group considered revised reviews and risk assessments for the following nutrients:
Thiamin
Folic acid
Copper
Chromium
Vanadium
Iodine

(3) Statement on fluoride

A statement setting out the Group's view that fluoride is not within their remit of the Group as fluoride was discussed and agreed. The Group agreed that the review paper will remain available for information purposes.

(4) Draft report - introductory chapter

It was agreed that the introductory chapter and the paper on the assessment of information will be sent out and comments returned to the Secretariat by correspondence before the next meeting. The amended versions with incorporated comments will be discussed at the next meeting.

(5) Date of next meeting

The next meeting will be held in early 2002. The time and venue to be confirmed.
