Food: The Use of Genetic Modification – A Public Dialogue
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has set up an independent steering group to shape and manage a public dialogue on food and the use of genetic modification (GM) that the Agency has been asked to lead on behalf of the Government.
The independent steering group, established in November 2009, is responsible for deciding how the work is carried out. The project aims and objectives, and the steering group's terms of reference can be found at the links below.
The dialogue will provide an opportunity to discuss with members of the public their understanding of GM in food and what they think are its potential risks and benefits. It will also try to identify what information people need and want in order to make confident, informed choices about the food they eat.
The steering group will make the key decisions about how the dialogue is designed and delivered and is responsible for approving all materials that are used in the dialogue and the project’s evaluation.
The invitation to tender, which invites proposals from organisations to carry out the dialogue, can be found at the links below. The tender was issued to organisations on the COI 'External stakeholder engagement and consultation (Lot 1)' suppliers list in early March 2010. The invitation to tender for carrying out the evaluation of the dialogue can also be found at the links below. The tender was issued to specific contractors and is not open to all.
