Food Authorities in EU Member States
Sunday 18 July 2010
The European Food Safety Authority was launched in 2002. Many Member States have also created new food authorities in recent years. The responsibilities and functions of the bodies vary from country to country. These are links to the FSA's equivalent organisations around Europe.
EU Food Safety Almanac
The EU Food Safety Almanac provides details of the main legal structures, public authorities and expert committees in the 27 European member states and the associated countries, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland that are involved in food and feed safety. It also covers the public authorities responsible for the assessment of pesticides, zoonoses and health claims and it provides information on which ministries in each of the countries are responsible for various aspects of management, how risks are communicated and the extent to which risk assessment and risk management are separated from each other institutionally.
The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), the EFSA Focal Point for Germany, was supported in the preparation of this Almanac by the Focal Points in the other member states. The Almanac can be downloaded free-of-charge in German and English from the BfR website at the link below.
