The Authority's strengths
Service Plan - The Authority has produced a Food Service Plan, which meets the requirements of the Standard.
Food Safety Promotion - The Authority are actively implementing food safety promotion.
Equipment - The Authority has made available all necessary equipment to permit all activities associated with the service to be carried out.
Follow-Up Action to Year 1 Non-Conformances - These have been completed.
Key areas for improvement
Food Premises Database - Although a check on the accuracy of the database showed that 15 out of 15 businesses randomly selected had been entered on to the database, there was evidence that not all food standards inspections carried out had been entered. The database software is currently being upgraded and enforcement officers are in the process of being re-trained.
There is no documented procedure to ensure that the database is accurate and up to date.
Food Standards Inspections - There is no formal food standards inspection programme, although food standards inspections have been combined with food hygiene inspections since April 2001.
Records - In some cases the premises files contained incomplete information regarding the operation of the business.
Sufficient and appropriate records are not always detailed within the files to demonstrate actions taken.
